Hands of Care
Our mission

“Bring comfort, care, and compassion to hospitalized patients through thoughtfully curated non-medical care packets and sensory support items.”

Founded by two students who wanted hospital stays to feel a little less lonely, Hands of Care has grown into a small team focused on one job: getting useful, comforting, hospital-safe items into the hands of patients at WakeMed, Duke, and UNC Health.

What we send

Two kinds of comfort, in every package.

Every item is brand new and factory-sealed before it ever reaches a hospital.

Hygiene & personal care
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Hairbrush
  • Body wash
  • Chapstick
Activities & sensory support
  • Fidgets
  • Activity books

Small things to keep hands and minds occupied — a way to pass a long afternoon that isn’t about being sick.

Safety, first

Every package is built to belong in a hospital.

We take hospital requirements seriously, so patients — and hospital staff — can trust what comes through the door.

  • All items are brand new
  • Items are factory-sealed and unopened
  • Only appropriate, non-medical items are included
  • Items are handled according to hospital requirements
  • Volunteers follow PPE and sanitization procedures
  • Zero-contact delivery when required
  • Volunteers complete the participation waiver
Who we serve

Not medical treatment. Just a little more comfortable.

Our packages are for hospitalized patients — not to treat, but to help a hospital stay feel more bearable, one small comfort at a time.

  • Stay occupied during a hospital stay
  • Have access to small comforts
  • Maintain personal-care routines
  • Reduce boredom
  • Feel cared for and supported
